Dissemination Workshop

Engaging with Refugees: Disseminating Social Scientific Research

to Increase Impact on Practice, Policy and Community

The workshop is a one day meeting, funded by the Irish Research Council & COST intended to bring social scientists and relevant stakeholders in conversation with each other. The topic is on dissemination of social scientific research relevant to the reception and integration of refugees in European host societies. Stakeholders will participate discussing their preferred channels and type of communication with academics. Participants develop dissemination strategies in small group discussions, under the guidance of workshop leaders.

The morning session will present

  • Examples of successfully implemented research, across disciplines and national settings.

  • Introductions of participant stakeholders and their strategies in using social science research

  • A roundtable discussion on the communication gaps and implementation barriers encountered by academics and stakeholders

In the afternoon we will provide a training session on dissemination strategies for academic researchers. Individual participants will work in teams with other academics and relevant stakeholders (practitioners, community representatives etc.) to discuss how and when dissemination plans are made, who is the audience, what, when and how is information delivered. Various dissemination venues will be compiled and analysed.

The workshop activities will result in the creation of a dissemination toolkit for social scientists.
